If you have more then crore to spend on a SUV chances are the Porsche Cayenne is on your list of probables. Its a luxurious and also great fun to drive even in diesel form. The big news is that Porsche has updated its big SUV Porsche Cayenne.
Like the Cayenne the Range Rover sport also promises to be most luxurious and great fun to drive, but which of them makes a stronger case for itself, that's what I will find out.
These two SUVs are from very different school of designs and are different as well as in colors i.e black and white.
The Range rover sport is all big wheels, squared out bonnet and large windows. Its looks stylish and has great presence. So much so that it appears a fair bit larger than the Cayenne, but the truth is both SUVs are about the same size.
Its just that Cayenne is more about softer lines and a sports car meets SUV profile. It is particularly beautiful but the latest update makes it more towards a pure SUV profile. The face lifted Cayenne is identifiable by its larger grill size and its side in ledge with those pronounced air blades. A quadratec of LED day-time running lights in the head lamp clusters is much like the Porsche 918. On the rear of Cayenne the revised tale lamps are the biggest give away.
Inside there isn't all that is new in the Cayenne, the biggest changes are in the back seats. Porsche has re-positioned the rear seats and now its like the ideal real seat for any luxurious SUV. Getting in and out is really easy, legroom headroom and the overall rear space is really good. There is also rear hand rest which makes really comfortable for 2 persons in the rear, but for three persons in the rear, the central tunnel sort of eats the legroom for the middle one. Anyway that's not a big issue. Changes in the front cabin are basically of the new Porsche 918 type steering and you will get a new button towards the bottom of the central console for the air suspension new sports plus settings.
The front cabin is meant for business class with the buttons for just about everything and an info rich instrument console. Quality is fantastic and everything inside seems like last forever. Front seats also gets thumps up.
Talking of Range Rover Sport so its not that straight forward, you just have to climb a little bit to get into it unlike Cayenne. Even at the lower of air suspension settings it doesn't feel low, but once you get inside you will feel like a special one. Like all Range Rovers you will get a brilliant view out, the glass area is really massive, there is lot of space in every direction and with lots of seat adjustments its makes it very easy to get comfortable behind the wheels. I really like the dashboard because its uncluttered, nice and simple. Although almost all car controls are over touch screen but with not that much resolution as of Cayenne.
Eventually you do get the great quality worth money you spend. There is a nice plushness and a certain richness to everything in the cabin. The Rover Sport may have the longer wheelbase but is marginally down in the rear space to the Cayenne, but the rear seats are more comfortable in Rover Sport and its flat floor makes it better suited hosting three.
Some things are common like rear T.V, sunroof, navigation system are optional in both. So this part is about the features in and out qualities of both the SUVs.
Now lets move to the engine part.
Porsche Cayenne has a V6 engine with 2967cc turbo diesel, power on the Indian version of this is 241bhp@3500-4000rpm and torque is 56kgm@1750-2750rpm. The power is channeled to all 4 wheels with 8 speed gear box. I must say it comes together beautifully well. Its a very refined engine but not the quietest among its rivals. The performance is very good, you gain 0-100 kmph in just 7.4 secs, when you just put the lightest input on the throttle it moves with certain eagerness. Gear changes are super quick which makes it really sweet the entire drive. The relatively gruff sound of the engine is the only negative part here.
Talking of Range Rover Sport so it also has V6 engine with 2993cc turbo diesel. Here you gain 0-100 kmph in 7.9secs which is very slightly slower than Cayenne but that doesn't matter while you drive because its more fun to drive, it has more road gripping, more weighted and the visibility you get here is way more better than Cayenne. Secondly it generates more power 288bhp@4000rpm and torque 61kgm@2000rpm that gives advantage over Cayenne. It feels more responsive more entertaining, energetic and provides more strong and sustained crust.
Range Rover Sport low speed ride is better than Cayenne. But overall Cayenne is more value for money with 1.04 crore, on the contrary Range rover sport costs 1.5 crore with almost same specifications and features. But the pure feeling of SUV you will get in Range rover Sport with more space and comfort.
